Just Minding Our Own Business
We were just minding our own business while driving through another small town on our way to McCall Idaho for its 49th Winter Carnival.

All of a sudden what do we see but the looks of a medieval castle silhouetted against a blue sky in the small town of Weiser, Idaho!  What was going on here?

Sure enough, we discovered a structure built in 1904 and entitled the Pythinan Castle standing proudly from a bygone era side by side with commercial businesses in the old section of town.

Research revealed that the Knights of Pythian, a fraternal organization, was founded in Washington, D.C. in 1864 and that their meeting places were called either castles or temples.

The hand cut stone for this building came from the nearby town of Sand Hollow, just ten miles away. The building's architecture is described as having a medieval castle design, displaying an early fantasy flare, and  exhibiting a high degree of craftsmanship.

The castle is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
